The Sea Table
Martha's Vineyard Fisherman's Preservation Trust
Our nonprofit, the Martha’s Vineyard Fisherman’s Preservation Trust, is committed to supporting the Island’s commercial fishermen and their sustainably harvested catch. We offer the land-based support needed for our Island’s sea-based businesses to thrive in an ever-changing world. Our cookbook, The Sea Table, co-authored with Catherine Walthers, was created with a vision–to get an Island community more connected, informed, and hungry for the local seafood that is harvested near and around its shores. Featuring stunning photography from Randi Baird, Brooke (Bartletta) Marriott, and many other Island photographers, The Sea Table is more than just a cookbook, it’s a tribute to the waters that surround Martha’s Vineyard and to the fishermen who work hard to bring seafood to our tables. It features 75 recipes curated from Island cooks, chefs, and fishermen; highlights19 seafood species found in Vineyard waters–from bay scallops, to fluke, to yellowfin tuna; profiles 21 local fishermen; and invites you into a world where fresh, sustainable seafood is a way of life. Whether you’re a seasoned cook, a seafood lover, or just someone who cares about where your food comes from, this book offers an inspiring–and delicious–way to eat locally. Each book purchase supports our mission at the Martha’s Vineyard Fishermen’s Preservation Trust and bolsters our non-profit’s efforts to ensure that this important sea-based culture, livelihood, skillset, and food source remains vibrant on the Island for generations to come.
