Red Mannequin Reborn

Shopping at Red Mannequin is like visiting the home of a stylish friend who has chosen all the right pieces for you to try on. The cozy space is alive with unique, attractive and colorful items, including gemstone jewelry, loose-knit scarves, leather handle totes and clothing well-suited to the Vineyard lifestyle. Owner Judy Hartford is a business woman devoted to making the shopping experience personal and inviting and has created a place of beauty and style reborn.

The newly renovated Red Mannequin, located in the vibrant Arts District of Oak Bluffs, is hard to miss with its barn red exterior and eclectic mix of women’s apparel. This specialty boutique features artistic, vintage looking clothing and jewelry made for a range of ages and body types. “My goal is to appeal to a wide variety of people,” Judy explains, “and offer items you won’t see in other places.”

The new Red Mannequin is adjoined by French doors to the original space, which is now a small gallery. Barbara Sandson’s photographs of the Vineyard and European landscapes adorn the walls, and a sofa provides patrons a place where they can comfortably view the art around them while companions shop and try on clothing. The two rooms complement each other well with high-pitched ceilings and natural light which provide an atmosphere of comfort and ease for the clientele.

Judy is a seasoned businesswoman who has owned and operated several stores on the Vineyard. For Judy, owning a business is “always about community and connection.” She feels especially proud to be a contributing member of the Arts District once again. The Red Mannequin, sister store to Once in A Blue Moon in Edgartown and Bananas in West Tisbury, also allows Judy to focus more directly on her look.

The art-inspired styles at Red Mannequin are romantic and timeless – but above all – wearable. According to Judy, one’s closet should hold, “nothing you couldn’t wear every day.” A white linen tunic, simple summer dress, classic black pants: these are the pieces that universally appeal to women, but at Red Mannequin, detailing, textures and colors make each of these items unique. Accompany the outfit with a wrap bracelet made by a Rwandan woman’s cooperative or a jade necklace found by Judy at a street fair in France, and you are ready for the Vineyard evening scene.

The Red Mannequin is located on Dukes County Ave in the Oak Bluffs Arts District and is open every day except Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
