For over 35 years Lew French has been designing one of a kind, exceptionally crafted works with stones and natural materials. His unique pieces have opened a new understanding on the matter of designing with stones.

Well known for creating large and small stone structures without clear evidence of grout lines, combining stones with driftwood, and creating organic pieces, Lew French has the reputation of a master in his craft. Together with sculptural items, Lew’s work includes fireplaces, buildings, terraces, walkways, stone gardens, fountains, and landscape designs.

Living on Martha’s Vineyard for 26 years, Lew has collaborated with architects, designers, contractors, landscape architects, and clients on numerous projects. He also does commissions for special stone projects off island.

Lew’s work has been nationally and internationally recognized, and samples of it can be viewed on his website, which offers links to magazine articles and television coverage of his work. A great variety of his pieces can also be seen in his book – Stone by Design – the artistry of Lew French, published by Gibbs Smith in 2005.
